RELI 111 (3) World Religions: The Eastern Traditions

An introduction to world religions, with a focus on Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: None.

RELI 112 (3) World Religions: The Western Traditions

An introduction to world religions, with a focus on Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Zoroastrianism. (3:0:0)

RELI 201 (3) Critical Bible Study: The Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures

An introduction to the historical, religious and philosophical significance of the Old Testament/Hebrew Scriptures, using techniques of critical Bible study. The course pays attention to the tensions between the "official line" and the "story line" within each biblical book. This course has no positive or negative religious presuppositions. RELI 201 was formerly called PHIL 202; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)

RELI 202 (3) Critical Bible Study: The New Testament

An introduction to the historical, religious and philosophical significance of the New Testament, using the techniques of critical Bible study. The emphasis is on reading each biblical book for its individual meaning, rather than fitting it into an overall interpretive scheme. This course has no positive or negative religious presuppositions. RELI 202 was formerly called PHIL 203; credit will not be granted for both courses. (3:0:0)

RELI 208 (3) Selected Topics in Religious Studies

An exploration of a special topic in religious studies, such as early Christianity, mysticism and theology, new faiths, women in Christian and Buddhist mysticism, and faith and the will of God. Topics to vary from term to term. Course can be repeated for credit if on a different topic. (3:0:0)

Prerequisite: Min. "C" in English 12.

RELI 208A (3) Selected Topics in Religious Studies: Early Christianity
